Episode 29 - Scott Barnes says WPF is Dead

Over the past few weeks Scott Barnes has created a small storm by claiming that WPF is Dead and that HTML5 is the way of the future inside Microsoft. Richard Banks talks with Scott about this and a few other subjects about possible future directions Microsoft may be heading in. Wether you agree with nothing or everything in this episode, it's sure to be an interesting listen, and will give you a good insight into what happens inside Microsoft corp. Enjoy!

Oh, in case it's not obvious, the opinions and viewpoints expressed in this episode are without a doubt in no way reflective of our employers nor of Microsoft corporation. It's all purely personal conjecture.

  1. OK if WPF is dead, and it was supposed to replace WinForms, then what do you think will replace WinForms? HTML5? Naaah... I don't buy it.

  2. The supposed fact that WPF is not getting any major investments IMHO is not 1:1 with 'being dead'. Even there won't be ANY additional investments, with the state of WPF as it is today it is by far the best platform for desktop development on Windows platform. I would really like to hear how Mr Barnes would invest in WPF features - what is the thing missing so much?
As for lack of evangelism, well it is 2010 after all and trying to sell desktop VS web (in general speaking) is battle already done so I am not sure what the evangelists should work on considering WPF is not having any real desktop alternative. My point – there’s no one to sell WPF too

The only thing I can say in favor of 'WPF is dead' statement is that it is awesome marketing strategy for Mr Barnes who combine 'inside connections with Microsoft' with 'bash the Microsoft' which works very good based on examples I've seen in last couple of years

  4. Shame on your Richard. It's pretty sad to see talking shop stoop so low as to entertain such blatant misinformed self promotion for a small spike in traffic.

Richard, please lift your stanadard to where I thought it had been up until now and get back to producing a good podcast for real developers.

This sort of rubbish harms your credability.

  5. I applaud Scott for being so "open" about what's going on inside Microsoft, even if it is controversial/anti-cool-aid at times. At the very least, his comments are thought-provoking & gets people thinking & asking questions that need to be asked.
